Conservationists are celebrating the reappearance of a jaguar who was spotted in northern Mexico seven years after he was last seen across the border in the United States. James Reed reports.

Jaguars were almost entirely wiped out in the United States half a century ago. So this one became a celebrity when he was first spotted in the mountains of Arizona in 2011. A local school named him El Jefe, “The Boss” in Spanish. He was last detected there by a motion sensor camera in 2015. Now he's reappeared on the other side of the border in Mexico. Scientists confirmed his presence in Sonora State using specialist photo analysis software to identify his unique markings. They say the jaguar’s cross-border journey shows that wildlife habitats remain connected despite the barriers put up to stop human migrants.
